3.29.10: on march 6th my buddy Mark Linkous took his own life. i've had a while to think whether it was appropriate to mention this on my website but i thought it'd be nice to share a few thoughts. Mark and I worked on two records together and planned to tour this summer. the heartbreak and disappointment come and go but i just try and remember the time i spent with him. it's hard avoiding cliche so i'll sum up by saying that while Mark was a very sad person he had a great sense of humor and one of the greatest joys in my life was making him laugh.

12.17.09: my buddy Steve Schiltz of the bands Longwave and Hurricane Bells was asked by Filter Magazine about his favorite albums of 2009 and for some inexplicable reason he mentioned me. thanks Steve! (click on cover to read)

12.10.09: this past month has been a very exciting time in the studio. spent two weeks at Steve Albini's state-of-the-art studio "Electrical Audio". Electrical is probably the best, up-to-date, totally functional (which is actually a concern nowadays) and affordable studios. i recommend any band or artist to record there.

Steve Albini and Steven Nistor
After that it was back to LA for sessions with Daniel Lanois and Alison Krauss. a total blast!

Steven Nistor, Daniel Lanois, Mark Howard, Aaron Embry, and Christopher Thomas
10.30.09: hello there. sorry for the long delay in updates. more productions with Mark Howard have been in the works, as well as two tracks for Sparks' upcoming record/musical, "The Seduction of Ingmar Bergman." i've also been recording for producer Scott Litt who produced many of R.E.M.'s records.
i've been back in the studio with Daniel Lanois for a singer named Trixie Whitley (you can hear "We Are The Seasons" and "I Breathe You In My Dreams" at www.myspace.com/trixiewhitley) and a song for Robert Plant.
i'm currently in Detroit recording a record with Avant Garde Saxophone legend Faruq Z Bey backed by the "UFO Dreem Teem." far out!
looking forward to two weeks in Chicago with Steve Albini. this man makes incredible sounding recordings!
06.10.09: I'm happy to announce that the Danger Mouse / Sparklehorse record has been released with a book of David Lynch's photos. I was at the opening of the Michael Kohn Gallery showing of the work. If you have the time visit the exhibit. It's worth your while. I drummed and played keys on most of the songs. You can stream the album at NPR.

03.16.09: I just had a wonderful week in Calgary making a record with Producer/Engineer Mark Howard (Lucinda Williams, Bob Dylan), for a great, young singer named Matt Blais. It was literally 20 below when I landed, but got to play a 60 inch bass drum, so I was satisfied, in the end.
Previously I was in the studio with an LA band called Line and Circle with Joey Waronker behind the desk. It was a strange experience to have such a fantastic drummer that you look up to producing you, but in the end, a totally fun experience.

12.01.08: I just got finished with a great Eastern Canadian tour with Daniel Lanois. I got to see some wonderful small towns as well as some great Canadian metropolis's. Best of all, I got to play another one of Daniel's amazing drumsets. This one is a 20s Slingerland Radio King which had the original calfskin heads on it. I had them swapped out for some coated ones (we kept the calfs for the studio, of course). There's a black beauty from the 20's with all of the nickel worn off. The trip was an absolute blast!
